Creative Sabbath 2019

At the 2019 Digital Discipleship Conference, we are excited to feature the Creative Sabbath, which is a four-hour block set aside during Sabbath morning and afternoon to allow creators (and creators in training) the time and space to create!

To fully participate, we encourage you to bring your camera, computer, paints or recording equipment, because we will be creating with purpose.

In order to make the best use of this time at the Conference, we recommend that you consider how you’ll create for a church entity, for your church or ministry or in collaboration with someone else.

To spark your imagination, you’ll find some direction on how the creative Sabbath will work.

What Should I Do During the Creative Sabbath?

You’ll be invited to:

  • Get involved in an area of creativity
  • Choose a project and/or a prompt
  • Collaborate with other creatives (if you want to)
  • Create

Areas of Creativity

There are several areas where you can get involved creatively.  You can even team up with others to create something collaboratively using more than one area of creativity.

Maybe you have something in mind we haven’t listed below.  Share it in the Facebook Group

  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Graphic Design + Creativity
  • Development/IT
  • Art
  • Writing/Blogging
  • Combination Project

Projects

If you’re wondering what will happen to your newly created content, there are a few ministries that are interested in partnering with you to provide you with a platform. So, take a look at the potential projects below, or think up and propose a project of your own.

ADRA

Motto:  Justice. Compassion. Love

  1. Create icons and graphic design lockups that help communicate ADRA’s new motto and purpose statements.
  2. For the new motto: Justice. Compassion. Love.  ADRA is looking for icons (or any other creative ideas) that help communicate each thing individually.  So, an icon for justice, one for compassion and one for love.

  • “How to share your faith on social media”
  • “How to give a Bible study online”

Prompts

If you’d rather create content based off of prompts instead of for a particular project, one of these prompts might spark some creativity and get you started.  Post in the comment section what you might create.

  • What does Jesus mean to me?
  • What am I looking forward to most about heaven?
  • What does the Sabbath mean to me?
  • How do I share my faith on social media?
  • How do I grow as a disciple online?
  • How do I deal with struggle as a Christian?
  • What’s my personal testimony?

Opportunities for Collaboration

The Creative Sabbath is an ideal time to collaborate with other creators.  Find a project or prompt that inspires you or find a church or ministry that could use your talent.  Take this time to create something that will bless them.

Types of Content

If you’re this far down the page and you still haven’t been inspired, perhaps thinking of your area of creativity will spark your imagination.  You can decide to create content based off of the type of content.  Here are the types of content you can create in each of the areas of creativity.

Photography

  • Create stock photos that can be used by churches
  • Collaborate with a church or ministry to understand the types of photos they may need for their ministry
  • Create background photos for social media graphics

Videography

  • Create stock video footage
  • Chat with other creators and help them create a video
  • Create videos for the Personal Ministry “Snack Size” Project

Graphic Design + Creativity

  • Create social media posts that can be placed in a database to be used by churches that don’t have access to posts
  • Collaborate with ministries that need a graphic designer
  • Show what heaven will be like with Jesus

Developer/IT

  • Collaborate with a ministry that needs development support, like Fatih FM
  • Think of an innovative solution to help the church do ministry more effectively
  • Work with an artist, videographer, photographer or blogger to take an idea to the next level

Painting

  • Create a painting expressing what the Sabbath means to you
  • Show an expression of what you think heaven will be like with Jesus

If you have any ideas about the Creative Sabbath, leave them on our Facebook Page or in the Facebook Group!  We can’t wait to see what you’ll create!
