Kyle Portbury

Kyle Portbury is an award winning writer/director whose work encompasses a diverse range of storytelling from documentary to feature films.  Graduating from The Drama Centre London with an MA in Performance Kyle accidentally became a director, that is to say he didn’t set out to direct that’s just what ended up happening through a series of fabulous mis-adventures.  This past twelve months have been busy with Kyle writing the feature screenplay Sailfish, a semi-finalist in the Kairos Prize, a top screenplay competition in LA.  The screenplay was also nominated for Best Dramatic Thriller at the New Hope Film Festival in Pennsylvania this past Novemeber.  In January Kyle was commissioned and subsequently delivered the screenplay for the upcoming feature film The Defender shooting in South Africa next year and has recently been attached to direct the feature film Uncle God for a major faith based studio.  Kyle is currently very proud of his senior film class at Southwestern Adventist University, where he is Associate Professor of Film in the Communication department.  His students’ short film The Prepper was officially selected for the Lionshead Film Festival in Dallas, TX and screens in competition at the festival in late June 2016.  When he’s not poncing about pretending to be a filmmaker or cowering in his office in fear he’ll be found out as the talentless hack he is, Kyle enjoys time with his splendiferous wife Andrea and their cheeky monkeys Hudson and Layla discovering that in fact the stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of Texas.
